Duo group video calling is available on smart displays from LG, JBL, and Lenovo as well.
What you need to know
- The Nest Hub Max can now be used to make group video calls with Duo and Google Meet.
- Google is rolling out beta support for G Suite accounts, which means you can also host work meetings on the Nest Hub Max
- The new feature will begin rolling out in the U.S. today.
One of the most impressive features of the Google Nest Hub Max is its 6.5MP camera, which can be used not just for keeping an eye on things at home, but also for video calls. Up until now, you could only make one-on-one video calls with the Nest Hub Max. Starting today, however, Nest Hub Max owners in the U.S. can make group video calls using Duo and Google Meet.
Before you can begin making group calls, you will have to create groups in the Duo app. Once you have created groups, you can initiate a group call using the command "Hey Google, make a group call" and tapping on the Duo group you wish to connect with. You can have up to 32 people join a group call on Duo. Apart from the Nest Hub Max, group video calls are available on the LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9, JBL Link View, and Lenovo's 8-inch and 10-inch smart displays as well.
It is also now possible to join meetings on Google Meet from your Nest Hub Max. To call into a meeting on Meet, you will have to say "Hey Google, join a meeting" and then tap on "enter a meeting code" and type it in. You can also say "Hey Google, join my next meeting" if you want to instantly connect to the next meeting on your Google Calendar. With beta support for G Suite accounts, the Nest Hub Max can even be used to host work meetings.
